Devonshire Green TRASHED with mounds of rubbish by 'lazy' Sheffield sun seekers

Thursday was the hottest April day for nearly 70 years with the temperature peaking at 29.1C in St James' Park in London.

The hot weather meant sun seekers flocked to parks and beer gardens across Sheffield; soaking up the rays and enjoying a well-deserved drink.

But local residents have been left outraged this morning after discovering the 'disgusting' conditions the green spaces have been left in.

One resident snapped this picture of an untidy Devonshire Green this morning as he headed to work.

Empty cans, bottles and carrier bags can be seen dumped across the grass by residents enjoying their time in the sun.

Jamie Shaw was also left furious with the mess left behind on the green this morning.

He tweeted: "Disgusting scenes this morning on Devonshire Green..absolutely covered in rubbish from people who simply couldnt be bothered to find a bin or take it home with them #Sheffield #litter"

And it was a similar story in Endcliffe Park which was left 'trashed' by sun seekers.

Raven Nielsen tweeted: "Gorgeous sunshine yesterday, and #EndcliffePark looks trashed this morning. PICK UP YOUR LITTER YOU ABSOLUTE LAZY *** SCUTTERS. Jeez. Come on students, be better humans. #litterlouts @HelpSheffield"

Sheffield is enjoying more sunshine today with the Met Office saying most parts of the country are enjoying warmer conditions than normal for this time of year.

"It's going to be pretty hot again tomorrow, with a lot of sunshine around," said meteorologist Alex Burkill.

"We will see highs of 26C, 27C and maybe 28C in the London area. Low 20s are likely for much of England and Wales, while Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland will see temperatures in the high teens."

However, experts at The Weather Channel are warning that the mercury could drop to -2C in some places by the middle of next week, causing air frosts that are a complete contradiction to this week's tropical temperatures.

The Weather Channel website says: "Predictions for the middle of next week ​indicate sleet and snow flurries falling across the country​,​ from ​the Welsh hills to the ​Pennines and north ​Scottish mountains​,​ as ​a ​cooler ​snap grips ​Britain.

"Temperatures are expected to fall after the weekend with widespread outbreaks of rain and blustery showers on the cards for large parts of the UK."
