SWIMMERS will be taking the plunge for a cancer charity.
Creswell Leisure Centre has signed up to take part in the nationwide Swimathon on April 27. The event will see people take on 5k, 2.5k and 1.5k individual or team challenges in 600 pools across the UK to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Last year, 22 swimmers took part, raising £1,006. This year organisers are hoping they will smash that target.
Coun Ann Syrett, Bolsover Council’s cabinet member for social inclusion, said: “The 2012 Swimathon was a massive hit and great fun and we want to make 2013 even bigger. Swimming is one of the best ways to keep fit and healthy and have fun with your friends so why not take up the challenge.”
Entry is open at www.swimathon.org until April.
