The Derbyshire school is commemorating its milestone year in July with events including a tea party and the creation of ‘school family tree’ artwork.

Teachers, governors and local residents are collecting people’ memories to mount an exhibition of ‘150 memories’ to mark 150 years of schooling in the village. Tributes, artefacts and photographs are all welcome.

Vice chairman of governors, Liz Broomhead MBE is working with others to organise events and collate information. She said: “If you are a former pupil; a resident with special links to the school; a previous staff member; a parent, grandparent or carer; or someone who has fond memories of supporting the school in some way, please get in touch with us.

“We hope to bring together 150 different quotes, items, photos and tributes and I am sure the community will support our project. If you’d like to share information, even a small musing about your favourite teacher or school dinner, a particular event you recall or your best friend during school years, we would absolutely love to hear from you.”

Widow Pauline Fitchett, 72, from Rothley in Leicestershire visited the school in September 2015 to show pupils and staff a wristwatch that was given to her mother-in-law, Susanna Flower, for good school attendance more than a century ago.

Pauline said: “We were made very welcome when we visited school to meet the children and teachers. I think it is fitting that it is set to celebrate its 150 anniversary so thought the watch and newspaper article would be well received.”
