Derbyshire police urge parents to join the fight against cybercrime

Derbyshire Constabulary is supporting a campaign launched today by the National Crime Agency to discourage young people from becoming involved in cybercrime.

This comes after analysis of investigations involving the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit found the average age of suspects over the last year to be 17.

The #CyberChoices campaign is aimed at educating the parents of 12 to 15-year-old boys who may be involved in hacking or other cybercrime. The initiative seeks to help parents and carers to spot signs of potential problems.

The scheme includes guidance for parents, an educational unit for teachers and video resources featuring an ex-hacker discussing the consequences of his crimes.

Resources are available for parents, teenagers and teachers on the National Crime Agency website.
