The stunning 12th century medieval manor house, near Bakewell, will host an open day for brides and grooms-to-be who want to tie the knot there. Lady Edward Manners said: “I am thrilled to host an open day to inspire prospective couples to enjoy one of the most important days of their lives here at our home at Haddon. It’s an exceptional house and one which a bride and groom, and their wedding party, will remember forever.” The event will take place between 10am and 3pm on Sunday, March 29. • A leading Chesterfield business has become the headline sponsor of one of the town’s biggest events.

The PK Group in Sheepbridge, has agreed a three-year deal expected to be worth £100,000 with the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon operated by the Kids ‘n’ Cancer charity, one of the country’s leading organisations in supporting families and patients to access proton therapy treatment, which is not currently available in the UK. • The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition has selected a candidate to fight the Chesterfield parliamentary seat in May’s General Election. Matt Whale, 23, who works at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, said he opposes the Government’s austerity measures. He added: “The people of Chesterfield deserve better than this. The Tories and Liberal Democrats announce more austerity and then the local Labour councils meekly pass this on. Everything we cherish is under threat,” added Mr Whale.

• Chesterfield’s General Election candidates will be under the spotlight at a Question Time-style event. The meeting will take place at Chesterfield Market Hall’s Assembly Rooms from 7pm on Friday, April 17. It has been organised by four community groups in the town. • Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins has visited Chesterfield Visitor Information Centre morning to celebrate tourism in the borough. The trip to the centre in Rykneld Square, owned and operated by Chesterfield Borough Council, was part of an initiative organsied by Visit England as part of English Tourism Week. The organisation is encouraging MPs of all political parties to promote tourism in their constituencies.

• A mum has lost her locks – raising £800 for the neonatal unit at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. Helen Ayre, of Wessington, had about nine inches of her hair cut off. It will be given to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. Medics at the medical centre tried to save her son, Jack, who sadly died in 2006.

• Fans of the British superbike team are being invited to meet their heroes at a special open day being hosted by Via Moto Honda in Chesterfield on Saturday. The open day will feature a number of activities for fans. For more information about the event, call Via Moto Honda on 01246 488722.

• Almost half of office workers in the East Midlands walk for less than 30 minutes a day at work, according to a survey. Office workers are being urged to walk more during the day to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease.
