North East Derbyshire District Council has sold its former offices in the heart of Chesterfield for an undisclosed sum.
Earlier this year, the authority relocated from its prominent Saltergate base to new state-of-the art headquarters on Mill Lane in Wingerworth.
The council has now confirmed it has agreed the sale of the old offices to Saltergate Solutions Ltd.
Contracts have been exchanged and are due to be fully completed on January 8 next year when the handover of the building will formally take place.
Weekend public car parking at the site will remain in place until Sunday, December 20.
After then, the pay and display facility will be removed and access to the site restricted.
Councillor Graham Baxter, council leader, said: “We’re delighted that the sale of Saltergate has been confirmed and I am sure it will prove to be a very good investment for the new owners.
“It was a big wrench for us to leave Saltergate as it was a good home to us for more than 40 years.
“But times have changed and we needed to adapt to these changes and make the most of our buildings in terms of flexibility, cost-effectiveness and efficiency, something which our Mill Lane headquarters provide.”
A council spokesman added: “A decision is still to be made on the future location of the customer contact cetre and further information will follow in due course.”
According to Companies House, Saltergate Solutions Ltd was created on Novembner 4.
The Derbyshire Times has so far been unable to get hold of the company to find out more details on its plans for the building.
