Rather than watch the Blades against Owls, supporters can cheer on Hallam FC and Sheffield FC in a match to mark the 150th anniversary of Hallam’s Sandygate ground at Crosspool, the world’s oldest.
The game had been due to take place on Boxing Day but was frozen off. The fixture now takes place at 3pm on Bank Holiday Monday May 2.
Hallam’s club president, former Premiership referee Uriah Rennie, said the match aims to “celebrate the history” of local football in the city, and urged fans to turn out in force.
He added: “We have a long standing tradition of been friendly and welcoming.”
Club publicity officer Kennedy Borthwick added: “This is not just a celebration for Hallam FC, it is one for the city of Sheffield and for football itself.”
Tickets are available online at www.theoldestfootballgroundintheworld.com, or from The Plough Inn, Crosspool, or The Coach and Horses pub, Dronfield.
