Dementia sufferers wanted for new app

People living with dementia and those who care for someone with the condition are being asked to take part in a trial of a dementia support app.

More than 20,000 people already use MindMate, which aims to improve the lives of people with dementia by giving practical help to them and their carers.

Now it is being promoted in Sheffield after its young designers won the city’s Smart Lab competition for innovation in care.

This comes as it is revealed that one in three children born last year are likely to develop some form of dementia in their old age.

Patrick Renner, co-founder of MindMate, said: “We developed MindMate based on personal experiences of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. With MindMate, we wanted to build a tool which would have helped keep our grandparents more independent.”
