Honour guard lays to rest Sheffield navy man Eddie as Last Post sounds
A bugle played the Last Post alongside a Royal Naval Honour Guard at the funeral of a popular Sheffield Navy veteran.
Edward known as Eddie to his friends and family, was born November 1942 and passed away March 16 2021, aged 79.
Eddie joined the Royal Navy in his teens and left in 1968 after completing 9 years service.
He had on shore postings at HMS Mercury and HMS Forest Moor, and offshore posts on the ships, HMS Plover and HMS Barrosa

One of his first jobs after leaving The Navy was at Heathrow Airport, he then returned to Sheffield where he was employed at Stocksbridge Leisure centre.
Eddie never forgot his Naval roots, he became Chairman of Stocksbridge and Deepcar Royal Navy Association, a role he held for over 20 years. He was also the Chairman of the 8th Destroyer Squadron.
His funeral service was held at The North Chapel Grenoside, with a Royal Naval honour guard.
With standard bearers from the Stocksbridge Royal British Legion, and Sheffield Royal Naval Association, with the last post given by Glyn Boyington.
