A decision on the Ikea application fto build a store on the former Tinsley Wire Industries factory site is overdue.
South Yorkshire urgently needs the 700 jobs promised by Ikea. The only serious objection to the plan is the possibility this proposed development would lead to road congestion and lead to an increase in pollution.
The Tinsley Wire Industries factory site was rail-connected and could easily be again, going a long way towards overcoming this objection.
Politicians are continuously assuring their constituents of their support for the transference of freight from road to rail.
Active support by these politicians for the construction of a rail-connected Ikea Store on the Tinsley Wire Industries Factory Site would demonstrate their verbal support for rail is not just publicity seeking rhetoric.
