A MOTORCYCLIST was killed and a fellow biker airlifted to hospital after a collision with a car on a main road through the Peak District.

The smash happened on the A6 west of Bakewell, at the junction with the A5270 Chelmorton Road, near Taddington.

It involved the two motorcyclists and a Renault car, and happened at about 2.50pm on Thursday.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “A 48-year-old man, who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle, was fatally injured.

“Another motorcyclist was also injured and was taken to hospital in Manchester by air ambulance helicopter, which had been able to land at the scene.

“Some of the occupants of the Renault Scenic car also needed hospital treatment.

“Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicles before the incident, to come forward with information to help the inquiry.”
