Dean Hall fan column: Unwanted Millers loss but a real winner in Sharon

To lose our unbeaten record after 11 games was a bit of a body blow, as it would have been a great achievement to remain undefeated until the end of the season, but it wasn’t to be.

The atmosphere seemed a little bit flat in what turned out to be a nothing game really, on an afternoon where we had the better of the chances but nothing would hit the net.

There were no real surprises afterwards at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner, with Lee Camp and Grant Ward scooping the main prizes. Both have been outstanding for a large part of the season, and particularly since Neil Warnock arrived.

As a lot of fans gear up for a few drinks and the season finale at Hull City tomorrow, the main focus is still around Warnock’s future.

That aside, I’m sure most of you have read the touching letter from Neil’s wife, Sharon, from earlier in the week. What a tremendous read.

The strength of the lady to not only focus on overcoming her illness but to thank the club and fans for their support touched everyone’s heart.

Cancer is a disease that touches many of our families and the class shown by the Warnocks over the last few months in handling the situation is commendable.

I’d like to point morning readers towards a charity fans match at New York Stadium this afternoon (2pm start) in aid of Rotherham Hospice.

A group of Millers supporters take to the field to raise money for a superb cause, and just a personal donation is required on entry. I believe the bar will also be open, with everyone welcome.

Away from the Millers, and a subject I touched on last week, it was great to see Leicester City clinch the title after Spurs failed to beat Chelsea on Monday night.

What a game that was to watch. Drama, incident and no shortage of quality, which affirms my thoughts that the Premier League is the best in the world.

Finally, congratulations must go to Burnley too for their immediate return to the top division.

I see Sean Dyche in a similar mould to Mr Warnock with regards to his managerial qualities. If he can mirror Neil’s career, he won’t go far wrong.
