Deals near as Sheffield Eagles talk with key men
Sheffield Eagles are close to rubber-stamping a number of new deals as director of rugby Mark Aston starts to shape his squad for 2018.
For the third successive year, the Eagles are set for a close-season upheaval of players, after confirming at least 10 departures from last season’s squad.
The flow through the exit door appears to have halted for the time being as discussions continue behind the scenes. The Star understands that announcements are close on a number of key players.
“We are working hard. Deals are being made, and we’ll look to get some of those confirmed over the next couple of weeks,” Aston, pictured, told The Star.
One of the high-profile departures was that of long-serving Duane Straughier, who has now been officially unveiled by League One side Hunslet.
“I see this as a massive opportunity for me to continue my career and enjoy every second of it,” Straughier said on his arrival at South Leeds Stadium. “I and the rest of the boys will give 100 per cent throughout the season to get this club back to the Championship.”
