Deaf-friendly film screenings to launch at cinema

A cinema is stepping up efforts to make the cinema experience enjoyable for people with hearing problems.

Sheffield city centre’s Showroom will increase the number of films it shows with subtitles every Monday from the new year.

To launch the new scheme, the Paternoster Row venue will show Ghost Stories, accompanied by sign language interpretation, on Tuesday, December 17, at 8.30pm. There will also be a talk following the screening.

Joan Parsons, Showroom’s senior programmer said: “This initiative is vital to broaden access to all of our programme and we are very excited about this development. We believe that everyone should be able to come and enjoy film at the Showroom.”
