Days of knights at heritage site

Have your say

VISITORS were transported back in time as Bolsover Castle’s month-long medieval celebrations got under way.

Noble knights went head-to-head in a tournament and showed off their skills on horseback, while a jester entertained crowds during the bank holiday weekend.

A different knight will visit the castle each weekend in May to show off their skills, culminating in the Grand Medieval Joust, on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27.

The events have been organised to coincide with English Heritage’s Medieval Month of May.

This weekend, the Blue Knight from the North will be at Bolsover Castle on Saturday and Sunday, from 11am until 4pm.

Lucy Hutchings, English Heritage events manager, said: “May is an ideal opportunity to make the most of English Heritage membership and come back each weekend to meet the four teams of knights and squires and choose your champion knight.”
