A series of festive events have been lined up for Sheffield city centre in the countdown to Christmas.

Shopping street The Moor will be offering free activities, entertainment and fun for all the family every Sunday from December 1.

The programme, designed to complement the newly-opened market building, kicks off this weekend with an array of Disney characters taking part in a meet and greet. Santa Claus himself will also drop by to say hello to youngsters.

The following week the Singing Santas will be in town to delight shoppers with festive numbers. Then on December 15, a snow machine and snowmen armed with goodie bags will help create a winter wonderland outside the Halifax bank building.

Stilt-walking elves, live music from the Purple Cat Community Choir sing their carols and the Sheffield Pipe Band and dancing displays will cap off the celebrations on December 22.

Fairground rides, face-painting and refreshments will be available every Sunday.
