Manor and Castle Trust development officer Dawn Dale is proving to be a community champion
If you want to know about some of the great things going on in the Manor area, then look no further than Dawn Dale.
Dawn is a community development officer with the Manor and Castle Development Trust.
All generations of residents are catered for, from the over-50s group, to the youth club it runs in partnership with St Swithun’s Church,.
There is also a benefits advice service.
Dawn and the trust team are based in Manor Park Community Space, Manor Park Centre, and have close links with other centres such as Sign Post, based at the old Steel Inn.
She said: “We’ve got four members of staff here and one support worker and we do all sorts – you name it we do it.
“It could be people with benefits issues, socially isolated people.
“Anyone can come to us and there will be help or activities for them. “It’s about helping other people become active in their community. There are a lot of people at risk of being isolated.”
There is a weekly walking club organised by the trust’s fitness officer Kellyanne Sharman, along with exercise sessions at Prince Edward’s School and St Theresa’s.
At Sign Post, members of the over-50s club are regularly treated to cinema screenings and get the chance to meet up for tea, biscuits and plenty of chatter.
Last week, it was the latest James Bond adventure, Skyfall, which entertained members.
There are trips, too – the men’s club most recently went on a day out to watch snooker, as well as summer outings to Scarborough.
