The charity, which has raised more than a million pounds in the last four years to buy equipment to save and improve the lives of patients with a range of debilitating neurological conditions at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, made the announcement this week.

Trustee Amy Tingle said: “We are honoured to announce a new patron joining our team, Sheffield United’s Dave McCarthy has a real passion for charity work and has supported many charities in such positives ways in the past so we are really excited to have him involved.

“Dave is able to combine his knowledge within the world of sport and business and bring it to Neurocare. We have seen first-hand the fantastic work Dave has done with numerous charities including ourselves and could think of no better way to honour what he has done so far then by making him an official patron.

“We can’t wait to work with Dave more closely in the exciting projects which lay ahead.”

Dave said: “I am honoured to become a Patron of Neurocare and hope that I can help the charity continue and further develop its excellent work across the region.

“I have seen at first hand just how passionate those involved with the charity are and I look forward to helping support them to make a real difference.”
