THE only remaining ex-miner in Grimethorpe Colliery Band has retired after 33 years.
Dave Barraclough, aged 52, packed up his cornet to spend more time with his wife, children, and granddaughter.
He said: “I’ve had the time of my life for 33 years, it’s been amazing. I’ve been around the world and seen places I wouldn’t have seen if it wasn’t for the band.
“But I feel the time is ready for a break.”
Dave is the only remaining member of the Barnsley band who starred in the hit film Brassed Off, for which they recorded the soundtrack.
He became good friends with the film’s star Pete Postlethwaite who died last year.
