Boxing trainer Brendan Ingle’s daughter put councillors on the spot over delays to a promised community centre.
Bridget Ingle took Sheffield Council to task over the future of a building at Newman Court in Wincobank, a former old people’s complex, which the authority has pledged to convert into a community centre, replacing another venue which closed.
She said: “I’m representing my father who has asked questions before about the promised replacement community centre for Wincobank.
“We had been told by the previous Lib Dem administration that no decision had been taken about the budget for the work.
“Now Newman Court has been half-demolished and we have heard no news of progress.”
Coun Mick Rooney, cabinet member for communities, said the project was placed on the back-burner due to funding cuts.
He said: “There are a significant number of community buildings around the city in need of repairs and improvements but, because of Government cuts.”
Coun Rooney pledged to meet with the Ingles and community leaders.
