Dates announced for DocFest

The 24th edition of the international documentary film, which has been running in the city since 1994, will kick off on June 9 next year, on a five-day run.

Nearly 33,000 turned out for this year’s festival - now the biggest documentary festival in the UK and third biggest in the world - an increase of 4.6 percent on 2015 numbers.

The festival was attended by delegates from 60 countries and featured big names from across documentary and factual worlds, including Michael Moore, Tilda Swinton, Sir David Attenborough, Joanna Lumley, Louis Theroux and Freddie Flintoff.

Alex Graham, chair of Sheffield Doc/Fest, said: “I’ve grown used to people throwing superlatives at me about Doc/Fest, but I have had more spontaneous, heartfelt compliments this year than I can ever recall before. Special congratulations to LizMcIntyre for making her first Doc/Fest as a director such a triumph.”

Director Liz said: “These record figures are testament to the creativity, passion and dedication of the Festival team who worked with such tireless enthusiasm to deliver this must-see and must-attend programme across the film, Alternate Realities and Marketplace.
