Daring subjects for Sheffield student drama

Sheffield College drama degree students are tackling a double bill of plays with adult themes.

Consensual by Evan Plavey explores the themes of sex and consent and tells the story of a school head of year who unexpectedly runs into a former acquaintance.

Breathing Corpses tells the story of a chambermaid who discovers a body in a hotel room and the circumstances surrounding the death.

The award-winning play is written by Laura Wade, who grew up in Sheffield.

The 14 student performers are completing the BA honours degree or foundation degree in drama.

Performing arts lecturer Jo Beadle said: “Both plays are disturbing, thought provoking and sometimes shocking, although there are elements of humour in both.”

Performances take place at the Hillsborough campus on Livesey Street on March 6, 7 and 8 at 7.15pm. Both plays are suitable for young people aged 12 and above.
