South Yorkshire dad Paul Taylor just refuses to ‘Let It Go’ when it comes to daughter Lauren.
The devoted dad will take on the Great Yorkshire Run at the weekend, along with pal Ian Skirrow, dressed as the princesses from the hit animated movie Frozen.
The duo is raising funds and awareness on behalf of three-year-old Lauren, of Barnsley, who was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome at four-months old. Lauren’s family chose to raise money for the Williams Syndrome Foundation, which has supported the family over the past two-and-a-half years, but have been left stunned by public response, which has already seen them raise over £1000.
Lauren’s mum Kathryn, of Barnsley, said: “We’re overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity we’ve been shown, from family and friends, but also from total strangers who’ve pledged such a huge amount to this wonderful cause - and the donations are still pouring in!”
Lauren’s condition, which affects one in 25,000 children in the UK, impacts her development, meaning many of her milestones - such as walking and talking - are delayed.
Kathryn said: “Lauren recently started walking, which has been lovely. She’s unsteady on her feet but loving tottering around the house and exploring. She also tires really quickly but generally she’s such a happy girl.
“When Lauren was diagnosed, we didn’t know anything about the condition, we’d never even heard of it. The Williams Syndrome Foundation was a lifesaver for us. It’s a charity run by parents, for parents, and receives no Government funding, which is why we wanted to do something to help support them. Through the foundation, we met other families and got all the information we needed and the money we raise for them goes into further research of the condition.”
And the inspiration for the costumes came straight from Lauren herself.
Kathryn added: “Lauren, and Ian’s two daughters, all love Frozen. The dads got all dressed up in their outfits the other day and all three girls were in fits of giggles. For Lauren especially, music is such an important part of her life, she loves belting out ‘Let It Go’.”
