The Sheffield golfer’s tournament ended on a Friday for the first time since the French Open last July.

He finished on level par after two rounds after failing to make sufficient in-roads following his struggles on the opening day.

The Masters champion carded a two over par 74 on Thursday after a pair of double bogeys on the final five holes.

And he managed to claw just two shots back on Friday during a consistent round that lacked a bit of spark.

With the cut set at level par, Willett was eliminated from the tournament he won four years ago – his first European Tour title.

Topping the leaderboard is a three way tie on -11 between Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin, Swede – and Willett’s playing partner – Henrik Stenson and Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Richard Bland is the leading English player in the event, sitting six shots back on five under.
