Anyone who buys a CityBus Day or a CityWide Day will see a 30 pence increase to £4.30 and £4.60 respectively.

The weekly CityBus 7 Day ticket will go up by £1 to £15 and the CityWide 7 Day ticket will also rise by £1 to £16.

Monthly tickets will also see a sharp rise. A CityBus 28 Day ticket is going up by £7 to £56.

The CityWide 28 Day ticket will now cost £60 - up from £53.

The changes are set to come into play on the morning of Sunday, April 2.

But city transport chiefs are keen to stress the rise follows a 'lengthy price freeze'.

A TravelMaster spokesperson said; “It is a difficult decision to increase the cost of our products, however, these changes follow a lengthy price freeze and have been introduced to ensure that our range remains sustainable and that we can continue to offer South Yorkshire’s transport users some of the best value multi-operator tickets in the country.

"Alongside these price revisions TravelMaster will also be introducing a 50p charge for the issuing of a new smartcard. This is to encourage their reuse and follows over two years of cards being issued free of charge to customers with almost half of those only ever having had one product loaded to them.

"This charge will not apply to personalised cards ordered through MyTSY.com and is less than the production cost for the card."

TravelMaster is South Yorkshire’s multi-operator ticketing scheme and is owned and operated by South Yorkshire’s public transport operators. The ticketing scheme aims to allow flexible transport ticketing for passengers and to maximise consumer choice.
