Cycling trail unveiled at charity ride day

The Little Don multi-user trail in Stocksbridge was built last year by Sheffield City Council and will form part of the 31-mile charity route on July 16, which includes remote moorland, technical descents and the iconic Cut Gate bridleway as it leads riders from Langsett to Ladybower.

Participants will also cycle the Wigtwizzle bridleway, which was constructed by the Steel Valley Project in 2013. New bike shop ‘Full Gas Bikes,’ in Fox Valley, will unveil its services on the same day. The shop is run by former UK No. 1 ranked road rider, 14 times National Champion and World Championship Silver medallist Tony Gibb and was officially opened recently by Joanna Lumley OBE.

The charity event is being run by the Steel Valley Project and funds raised from the event will go to the countryside management charity, which is working to improve green spaces in Stocksbridge, Bradfield and the surrounding areas.

Event organiser Tom Newman said: “The Steel Valley Ride is all about helping people to enjoy the countryside around Stocksbridge and the nearby Peak District.

“Cycling is a fantastic way to explore and with some great cycle routes, this event should offer a tough adventure and technical trails with the backdrop of some stunning scenery.”

With the support of a number of local businesses, including Full Gas Bikes, Polaris Bikewear, The Co-operative and Stocksbridge Cycling Club, participants will receive a free water bottle, rucksack cover, food on route and a hot drink.
