Cycle campaign debate event

Campaigning cyclists are holding a conference in Sheffield today to discuss road safety and other issues.

The event, at Sheffield University’s Firth Court, aims to ‘discuss threats and opportunities in UK transport policy’.

Simon Geller, of organisers CycleSheffield, said: “Philip Hammond, the Minister for Transport, has announced his intention to ‘end the war on the motorist’ whereas the real victims of this so-called war are children, pedestrians and cyclists. The UK continues to kill more than 2,000 people a year on the roads.

“The coalition Government has put an inadequate amount of money into sustainable transport, at the same time as restarting the road building policy.”
