Cut-price Kell Brook grudgingly compromises over Amir Khan purse

Kell Brook does not want to cede the lion's share of the purse to Amir Khan for their prospective Wembley clash in June.

As a world champion, the Sheffield fighter believes he is on a higher status than his domestic nemesis.

Yet he is prepared to swallow his pride and compromise to get the show on the road - and Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is much more confident of a breakthrough in the negotiations than he was earlier this week.

Hearn said: “Kell didn’t want to take less than 50/50. It’s been me twisting his arm, saying I don’t think these are the terms that are fair but the terms that could get it made. I’m hopeful but there’s a long way to go. I’d say I’m somewhere between 60/40 and 70/30 [in favour of it getting made].”

Hearn appears willing to offer Khan 60 per cent of the potential £12m Wembley purse to ensure a June 4 super-show happens. But the Bolton fighter might want more.

Khan has not fought since last April, while Brook is super-fit and ready for his IBF defence against Kevin Bizier on March 26.
