The Indian inspired cafe took to Facebook to inform their fans of their closure and thank them for custom in an emotional post.

"What a pleasure its been," posted The Bhaji Shop.

"The time has come for The Bhaji Shop to move on and seek out new adventures. May will be our last month in Kelham.

"We’re still out and about doing various events and weddings over summer, and as always have projects in the pipeline to look out for.

"We'll be serving our last thali on Saturday 26th May so it would be lovely to see you between now and then.

"Thank you so so much to the wonderful family, staff, customers & friends for making the whole experience the amazing journey it's been!!

"Huge love from us all at The Bhaji Shop."

Chef Matthew Holdsworth and his sister and co-owner Melissa opened the shop in a tiny converted home 'by accident' on Chesterfield Road.

The siblings followed in the footsteps of their father John, who used to run MasterChef in Attercliffe, famed for its bhajis.

However, they then decided to move to their new premises on Ball Street after running out of space to fit all their admiring customers.

“It’s like a little bit of a family here”, Matt told the Star.

“It is a slightly different clientele, it feels more working professional while Meersbrook was a mix of working professional and young families.

“It definitely feels a bit more city like down here - and there are events like Peddlar Market as well.”

The restaurant will now be serving their last dishes on Saturday, May 26 and customers were quick to express their disappointment.

Luke Riley said: " Absolutely gutted would be a light understatement; The Bahji shop has gone from strength to strength.

"I will miss the forsaken Bahji wraps on my lunch along side brethren. I will miss the small talk with the many Bahji girls as I wait for my wrap.

"I know the brethren will miss this too. You’ve served us well, the legacy will live on, forever more, forever more and ever more."

Derek Dignam said: "Sorry to hear the news guys. Where are we going to get the best bhajis in Sheffield from now? As you say onwards and upwards best of luck for the future."

Jo Bonnett said: "What? Gutted, I absolutely love this place. Please let it be because you are reopening somewhere else."

Craig Hallam said: "The best place to eat in Kelham by a mile...will be sadly missed. Thanks for the great memories."
