Little Felix Behan’s christening plans on Sunday have been kicked into touch – because his dad has a very important football match to attend.
Ash Behan had already sent out the invites to his six-month-old son’s christening but changed the date last minute because it clashed with the Blades’ FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
The lifelong Sheffield United fan said: “All the invites had gone out so it was a bit awkward when we had to change it.
“A lot of my friends and family couldn’t believe I’d changed it for football but unless you like football you wouldn’t understand it. They’ve all come round now.”
Ash and his partner Kate Brown, both aged 21, had already booked a church and pub reception for Felix’s big day on Sunday.
“I was hoping the match was going to be on the Saturday,” Ash, a highways engineer, explained.
“When I found out it was on the Sunday I said to Kate: ‘Do you want the good news or the bad news?’
“Then I said: ‘There isn’t any good news – the bad news is we have to change the date.’
“She wasn’t particularly impressed but it had to be done. I’ve been lots of different places to follow Sheffield United, and you can have a christening any time, within reason.
“It didn’t go down very well but I think she has come round a bit now.”
All the plans have now been rearranged for Sunday. May 4, instead.
Ash said: “Hopefully Felix will appreciate it one day.
“I’m sure he’ll be able to understand why – I’m sure he’ll like football when he grows up.”
Ash, who now lives in Lincolnshire, will join friends at Wembley on Sunday, when the Blades will take on Hull City in a bid to secure a place in the FA Cup final.
