Sheffield North East Neighbourhood Police said the 15-year-old was riding the bike with one other youth on the footpath between Yew Lane and Halifax Road in Parson Cross.

The police said the moped had been stolen from the local area on Christmas Eve and will now be reunited with the rightful owner, who has been informed.

Earlier during the shift, the neighbourhood police team who had been pro-active in targeting one of the local nominals who is known to use hire cars illegally, also arrested a man for driving offences.

The vehicle has been recovered pending enquiries.

The police said: "Two vehicles removed - Two individuals processed - We also did what we do best and conducted numerous welfare checks on those we have identified as being the most vulnerable within our community."
