Young man smashes up Sheffield students' hall of residence with snooker balls after taking spice

A vandal who had taken the cannabinoid drug spice smashed a wall at a students’ halls of residence.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Sheffield Crown Court – heard today, June 18, how Tom Allkins, aged 21, of Palgrave Road, Southey Green, Sheffield, threw snooker balls and damaged wall plaster and a glass wall panel at St Mary’s House, on London Road, Sheffield.

Kirsty Pearson, prosecuting, said he was found by a security guard at St Mary’s House student accommodation throwing snooker balls at a wall and causing £500 of damage.

Allkins pleaded guilty to causing the damage on June 17 to the Noble City Homes’ property.

Helen Toyne, defending, said Allkins could not remember the incident because he had been taking the cannabinoid drug known as spice.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse sentenced Allkins to a six-month conditional discharge but warned if he breaches it he will face prison. He must also pay £50 compensation.
