Detectives are hunting a yob who threw a brick at a train travelling in Sheffield.
The missile was thrown from the Butterthwaite bridge over tracks in Ecclesfield – smashing the train’s windscreen.
PC Mark Mason, of British Transport Police, said: “The brick bounced off the windscreen, leaving a large crack on the driver’s side. The train had to be taken out of service to be fixed. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured.
“On this occasion, no-one was injured. However, the consequences could have been far worse.
“This was an extremely foolish and dangerous act, which put the driver and passengers on the train in danger.
“The train driver reported seeing two men in dark clothing on the bridge at the time.
“I appeal to anyone who may know who is responsible, or saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to get in touch.”
Anyone with information about the incident, on Wednesday, September 18, is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
