On Sunday evening (May 24) at around 10pm, officers were called to Fishponds Road in Woodthorpe after reports of shots being fired towards a property by an unknown man on a bike. No-one was injured, but evidence of a firearms discharge was found at the scene.

On Monday (May 25), a member of the public called police at 8.30pm to report shots had been fired at a property and a car parked on Myrtle Road, Heeley. Again, nobody was injured, but the car was damaged.

The incidents are not being linked at this time, but officers are keeping an open mind as their investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson, force lead for armed criminality, said: “We are treating these incidents as two separate shootings, but we understand them both to be targeted attacks.

“My officers are working relentlessly to establish motives and identify those involved; this work is progressing and will continue over the coming days.

“These areas have in recent months been the subject of intensive, community-focused policing by local teams and we have built some solid community relationships. I want these to continue and I want residents to keep talking to us about what they know and what their concerns are. Working with our communities is vital to building intelligence and identifying those responsible for these types of incident.

“If you have any information that might help us, please share it, either directly with us on 101, or with Crimestoppers, where you can remain completely anonymous, on 0800 555 111.”

The latest shootings follow four others in different parts of the city earlier this month. These two incidents are not being linked to the previous firearms discharges in Nether Edge, Sharrow and Burngreave, but enquiries are continuing in relation to those shootings and a number of arrests have already been made.

DCI Henderson added: “Please be assured my officers and our specialist teams are working around the clock to progress our investigations and keep our communities safe.”
