A woman was pushed into an alleyway by a man during a robbery in which he stole her mobile phone and jacket.

Police said the 18-year-old was robbed between 4am and 4.15am on New Year’s Day shortly after she had left a bar in Chesterfield town centre.

She told police she was walking along Corporation Street in the hope of catching a taxi when she was targeted close to the junction with Holywell Cross.

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said: “A man held her by her shoulders against the wall and demanded her belongings.

“The victim handed over her mobile phone, he grabbed her jacket and made off with it down the alleyway towards the car parks.”

The robber was white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 9ins and of an average build.

He was wearing a dark hooded top and was described as having a very deep voice.

Witnesses to the incident or anyone with information about the culprit should call Derbyshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 71/15.
