A woman stumbled across a cannabis farm worth hundreds of thousands on a quiet Sheffield street.

Police were called to Slate Street, Lowfield shortly before 11am on Tuesday (11 August) after no fewer than 168 cannabis plants with a street value of £1,000 each once cultivated were found at a house.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the plants were “in the very early stages of growth.” No one was arrested and an investigation is now underway to identify those involved.

Last month police found £1.2 million worth of cannabis plants at a “sophisticated” underground farm complete with tunnels at a disused social club.

The spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly before 11am today (11 August) by a woman reporting to have found a cannabis cultivation at a property in Slate Street, Sheffield.

“On attending the address, officers seized 168 cannabis plants.

“An investigation is now underway to identify those involved in the production of the plants.”
