Woman 'brought down safely' from bridge near Sheffield city centre

A woman was brought down safely from a bridge near Sheffield city centre after concerns for her wellbeing prompted a huge police response.

Officers were called to the bridge at Park Square Roundabout, beside Sheffield Parkway, yesterday at 5.13pm, following reports of concern for the 46-year-old woman.

A number of police vehicles attended the scene, where officers remained in place for well over an hour, and trams had to be suspended.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police today said: “The bridge was closed while officers responded to the incident. The woman was brought down safely.”
