Woman, 77, rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after house fire in Sheffield

A 77-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries following a house fire in Sheffield.

Emergency services flooded New Cross Drive in the Woodhouse area of the city at around 12.30pm today (Sunday, 15 November) following reports of a house fire.

When fire crews arrived they discovered the fire was out but a woman inside had sustained “significant burn injuries.”

She was taken to hospital via an air ambulance, which took off from a field next to Stradbroke Road.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but it is believed to have started accidentally.

A section of New Cross Drive was temporarily sealed off by police.

A South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “Crews from Parkway, Birley Moor and Central were called to reports of a house fire on New Cross Drive, Sheffield, at 12.30pm. Upon arrival they found that the fire was out but the occupant, a woman in her 70s, had sustained significant burn injuries.

“She was immediately placed into the care of the ambulance service and has been taken to hospital. Firefighters have now left the scene but a fire investigation is set to take place later today into what happened and how this fire started.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 12.37pm today (Sunday 15 November) following reports of a house fire on New Cross Drive in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield.

“Emergency services attended the property. It is believed the fire started accidentally. A 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries."
