Shaykh Sadaqat Hussain, of the Madina Mosque on Wolseley Road, Lowfield, voiced his concerns following the murder of 30-year-old Khurm Javed, who was gunned down in the city on Saturday, April 10.
Mr Javed, a solicitor and dad-of-two, was shot on Clough Road, near Bramall Lane.
Two men, aged 21 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of murder and released on police bail after questioning.

In response to his death, imam Shaykh Sadaqat Hussain said: “Another young life lost to this gun culture. When will all this end?
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
“Words can't express the sorrow at the loss of such a wonderful young man's life.”
In the wake of the shooting, Sheffield’s District Commander, Temporary Chief Superintendent Shelley Hemsley, stressed that tackling and preventing gun crime is a priority for city officers.
The police chief said: “I want to be clear that tackling gun crime is a priority for my teams here in Sheffield, significant work is taking place to deter, detect and disrupt criminals involved in this type of criminality.
“Our dedicated Armed Crime Team, formed last year, has had some significant successes including the seizure of 66 illegally held firearms in 2020.
“Operation Fortify, which unites the police and partner agencies, is also disrupting the work of organised crime groups, by gathering and sharing information about key locations and criminals.”
