The dramatic footage of officers storming the property in Heeley yesterday, Wednesday, July 15, was released as police revealed the results of their latest blitz on organised crime groups.

South Yorkshire Police said two people had been arrested for drugs offences following a series of raids across the city.

At the house in Heeley, one man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs, as police uncovered cannabis at a property on Alexandra Road. He has since been released under investigation.

Over in Woodseats, another man was arrested and later charged and remanded into custody after 87 cannabis plants were seized from a property.

A third raid was carried out at commercial premises in Chapeltown, as part of Operation Fortify.

Detective Inspector Andy Shields said: “The Chapeltown unit was full of electrical equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis plants.

“Although cropping had already taken place, my officers discovered and seized around 1kg of drugs which would soon have been heading onto the streets.

“I want to remind people that production of cannabis feeds into the bigger picture around organised and violent crime. This activity helps fund wider criminality, it’s important that we disrupt supply chains like this.

“Remember too that there are often vulnerable people at the bottom of the chain, people who are exploited.”
