'We must get a grip on these shootings': Sheffield councillor speaks out after gun attacks on estate

Within the space of 10 minutes there were two shootings in Arbourthorne on Tuesday night.

The first was reported to South Yorkshire Police shortly before 9.45pm and the second at 9.53pm.

Police are treating the two incidents as linked and patrols have been stepped up.

Bullet holes can be seen in the windows of properties on both Errington Avenue and Aylward Road this morning.

Councillor Ben Miskell, who represents Arbourthorne, said: “It is unacceptable that lives have once again been disrupted and residents are saying that they are fearful of getting caught in the crossfire.

“We must get a grip on these shootings and make clear that the perpetrators are not welcome in our community.

“People are sick and tired of it. People just want to get on with their lives in peace.

“Residents have been in touch with me this morning to say that they are angry about what is happening in the community.

“They welcome the increased police presence in the area to deal with the incident, but they want answers about what appears to be a spate of gun related incidents that have taken place over the past few months.

“I know that many residents are scared, but I would encourage residents to pass on any information that they have about these incidents to South Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers.

“If we want to stop this, we have to work together and demand better for our area.”
