Police have yet to comment on the incident but a Wetherspoons spokesperson tonight confirmed that a fight had taken place between three groups of customers in which staff members who tried to break it up were assaulted.

The spokesperson also said another incident involving a different group of customers had taken place in the pub earlier in the evening.

Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm that two incidents occurred at the pub. A group of five young men in the beer garden were being verbally abusive towards management.

“They were told to leave. A drink was thrown in the face of a member of staff. The group left the premises when they heard the police were being called, but before doing so they smashed glasses in the beer garden.

“We utterly condemn these two acts of violence at the pub and will assist the police with their investigations.”
