Warning to motorists

MOTORISTs in Chesterfield are being reminded to lock their car doors when they go to pay for petrol, to stop opportunist thieves stealing cars from filling station forecourts.

The warning comes as part of a crackdown on thefts from insecure vehicles across Derbyshire.

Officers want drivers to remove all valuables from sight, even if their vehicle is only being left unattended for a few minutes.

Chesterfield community safety inspector Russ Dakin said: “It is vital that motorists do all they can to make their car less attractive to thieves.”
