Police are urging Eckington residents to be vigilant following a spate of shed and garage break-ins.

Since the start of April, police have received seven reports of burglaries in Eckington, Ridgeway and Marsh Lane.

The latest happened during the afternoon of Monday, April 15, when fishing equipment was stolen from an outbuilding in the garden of a property on School Lane, Marsh Lane.

Hand and power tools, golf equipment, bicycles and a motorbike have also been stolen during incidents.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and for local residents to report any suspicious activity.

Sergeant Paul Smith, part of the community safety partnership in North East Derbyshire, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and police patrols are taking place in the area.

“However, we would ask residents to give a bit of extra thought to security around their sheds, garages and also vehicles.”
