Warning over thieves targeting building sites in Sheffield

A police warning has been issued about thieves targeting building sites in Sheffield.

Officers are asking construction site owners to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, following two incidents where plant equipment was stolen.

They are investigating two reported thefts from sites in the Nether Edge and Highfield areas of the city, where dumper trucks were taken.

The Nether Edge site was broken into at 5.50pm on Thursday, April 16 and the Highfield site at 3.30pm on Friday, April 24

South Yorkshire Police said: “If you have movable plant equipment at your site, be sure to immobilise it and hide the keys in a safe location.

“Wherever possible, explore increasing your security at site perimeters to make it as difficult as possible for thieves to get in.”

Witnesses to either incident or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
