Police said the man had knocked on an elderly woman’s door on Westwick Road in Greenhill during the afternoon yesterday, Wednesday, December 4, and asked for money and her personal details.

PCSO Kenneth Blake, from the Sheffield South West safer neighbourhood team, said: “The lady, who was hard of hearing, felt sorry for the male and gave him a pound and told him her first name.

“Officers have visited the lady who is safe and well. However, residents are reminded of the need to check who is at your door before opening it to the caller.

“In this instance the situation did not escalate into anything else but could have become a bogus caller incident.”

He urged any residents with concerns about a ‘suspicious’ visitor to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
