Police added that a number of drivers caught parked dangerously beside solid white lines had been fined £100 and would get three points added to their licence.

Chatsworth House is closed but the gardens are open for pre-booked visits only.

A statement on the estate’s website says: “Access to the garden and car parks at Chatsworth and Calton Lees is only possible with a pre-booked ticket.

“We ask that all visitors respect our local communities, staff and each other, and only travel to the area if you have booked a ticket.”
