Leon Robinson breached a restraining order by going to his partner's home in Barnsley on May 5, the day he was released from prison following a sentence for common assault on her in April, prosecutor Sue Evans said.
On May 12, his partner called her probation officer to say Robinson was in her home and that she was too frightened to report him to police.

"He said he was concerned about her," said Ms Evans. "She made it clear she was afraid of him as he had been threatening her and tried to punch her."
When Robinson was being interviewed, he became aggressive and punched one officer and hit another in the face by pelting her with DVD cases.
The second officer was left with bruising, scratches and pain when her eye was injured by plastic shards.

Richard Barradell, mitigating, said Robinson's frustrations boiled over after "successive restraining orders for (his partner's) benefit caused problems for everyone."
He said there was a "tortuous history" of complaints being made against Robinson by his partner, and then withdrawn.
"He says he is sick and tired of pointing out how pointless this restraining order is," Mr Barradell said. "His partner has been in touch with him and asked his mother to lend him £2,000 to pay off her debts."

Judge Graham Reeds QC said: "Sometimes victims can appear to be allied with defendants - but when looking more carefully one has to be aware that victims are sometimes manipulated."
On Thursday at Sheffield Crown Court, he sentenced Robinson to 12 months in custody.
