Two miniature Shetland ponies – one of which gives rides to children in a Sheffield park – have been attacked by a dog.
Five-year-old Missy and three-year-old Bella are believed to have been mauled by a dog in a field at Totley.
Missy gave cart rides to children around Millhouses Park last summer and was due to start again next week, but her owner fears she may not have recovered by then.
Jennifer Gleadhall, who owns the two miniature Shetlands, said both were found with injuries to their bodies, faces and necks which needed veterinary attention.
Jennifer, aged 24, of Millhouses, who keeps her ponies in a field off Moss Road, Totley, said: “They are my pets but I taught Missy to pull a cart last summer and she used to give rides to children in Millhouses Park.
“She is supposed to be starting up again next week but I don’t know if she will have fully recovered by then.
“Nobody seems to have witnessed the attack, and the owner of the dog involved has never been in contact so I have informed the police.
“It appears to have been an attack because if they had injured themselves on barbed wire or a stone wall their legs and lower bodies would have been injured.
“The vet said that some of the wounds are quite deep.
“A lot of people walk their dogs round here so somebody might know something.
“I want people to be aware this has happened.”
