Two people arrested after police and bomb squad called to Sheffield flat

Police officers and an army bomb squad were called out to a flat in Lowedges this morning (January 25) and two people were arrested.

Emergency services were called to the property on Lowedges Road, with the bomb crew arriving shortly afterwards.

One neighbour said that Lowedges Park was shut and they had heard a ‘small explosion’ around 11.30am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were executing a warrant at an address on Lowedges Road this morning when they discovered a number of suspicious items at the property.

“The army’s EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team were deployed to assist officers and establish any potential risk linked to the items.

“A cordon was put in place at the property, but no evacuations of neighbouring addresses were required.

“There is no wider risk to the public.

“Two people, a man aged 46 and a woman aged 53, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and remain in custody at this time.”
